Following a five year secretarial post in Neurology, I joined the Mitochondrial Service in 1990 and have been privileged to watch it flourish from just a handful of people to the world-class Wellcome Trust Centre for Mitochondrial Research that it is today.
My role is to provide secretarial support to all aspects of the multidisciplinary service for the Rare Mitochondrial Disorders Service for Adults and Children in Newcastle. I work alongside Bernadette Caygill and Jane Brownand together we form a very close-knit team working for Professor Doug Turnbull,Dr Robert McFarland, Dr Andy Schaefer, Dr Grainne Gorman and Sister Catherine Feeney. Bernadette, Jane and I are the first port of call for patients, their relatives and clinicians throughout the UK from diagnosis through to the first outpatient appointment and beyond. We provide a confidential administrative service and are happy to help in any way that we can.
