Biography

Amrit gained his MRes from the University of Newcastle, Faculty of Science and BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from Northumbria University. He has worked in laboratories in Darlington and Durham then moved to Microbiology at the Freeman Hospital in 2008 progressing to Section Lead for Urines, Quality Manager and then Section Lead for Fluids/CSFs.

In January 2019 Amrit took up post as Quality Manager for Northern Genetics Service (ILM) and Newcastle NHS Highly Specialised Service for Rare Mitochondrial Disorders in the Neuroscience Directorate.

Amrit’s current Microbiology interests include:

  • Antibiotic resistance CPE
  • Microbiology of urinary tract infection

Genetic interests include:

  • SNP array service
  • Whole Genome Sequencing
  • Managerial aspects of Genomic reconfiguration
