I am a Genetic Technologist working as part of the NCG Mitochondrial Diagnostic Service. I work within the molecular genetic team aiming to provide a genetic diagnosis for patients clinically affected by mitochondrial disorders.
I work alongside other molecular technicians, clinical scientists and biomedical scientists who are specialised in areas such as histochemistry and biochemistry. The collaboration with the Mitochondrial research group also provides research-diagnostic interface which is important to develop new techniques and technologies to improve the diagnostic service.
I am currently a qualified Biomedical Scientist, but have always had a special interest in genetics. I enjoy working within the multidisciplinary team to help establish a genetic diagnosis for many patients. This also helps to guide genetic and reproductive counselling to families who are affected by mitochondrial disorders.
