Biography

FelixI am a PhD student working under Dr. Mark Cunningham from the Institute of Neuroscience and Professor Doug Turnbull from the Mitochondrial Research Group. My primary research interest is the role of mitochondria in generating synchronised electrical activity in the brain in the form of oscillation, which provides physiological measures of the neuronal activity. My main motivation to pursue research in this field is because there is a lack of available treatment for mitochondrial disease while mitochondrial dysfunction itself is implicated in more and more diseases. Mitochondria could be the common thread and hopefully, through more understanding of their role, novel treatments can be developed to make a change in the life of those who need it most.
